Hb's special birthday cake

I have quite many overdue posts that i have yet to post and this is one of them :P

Hb's birthday cake which i baked a day after beep beep boop's birthday.

I actually brainstormed quite a bit to make something special for the husband. As the hb likes chocolate cake a lot and he loves my chocolate truffle cake, i decided to do a little adaption to the truffle cake.

This is what i came up with :)

I also made the chocolate '#' myself!

Not too bad aye?

Because i didn't have the normal chocolate that is meant for chocolate moulding/shaping, i used my ValRhona 55% chocolate to do it. Yes, it is possible b.u.t it will melt very quickly in our tropical weather.

Right after i took an exact 4 shots, the # started to bend foward. Heh. Good for me though, coz it went straight into my mouth there and then :P

What i did to the truffle cake :

. add a layer of feuilletine on top of the bottom sponge for the added crunch
. add whole roasted hazelnuts in between the 2 sponges in the chocolate truffle layer
. last but not least, lots of roasted almond bits to my top chocolate truffle layer

Sliced [psstt : i made the diamond shape chocolate myself too! ;)]

Side view. See the whole hazelnut at the bottom? *drool*:P~

Up close : fr bottom - chocolate sponge, feuilletine layer, chocolate truffle with hazelnuts, chocolate sponge again, chocolate truffle with almond bits.

Guess you can tell i'm a total nuts freak by now aye? :P

So how do we like the cake?

Let's just say.. i didn't even wanna share it with my in laws! Heeee.. we had the whole cake ourselves, 3 adults + 2 children but consumed mostly by adults. Very greedy me >.<

Edited to add : 2 tbsp of rum were added to the chocolate truffle too!

Chocolate fudge cake

Hb is pregnant!

Requested for chocolate cake from me for at least 3 times! If that's not pregnant, i dunno what that is. Heh.

Been wanting to try this particular recipe for the longest time. So, no more procrastination and here it is...

For myself and hb, but mostly myself :PppPP

Yep.. it was mostly for myself even though it was hb who requested it because i. i wanted to try the recipe ii. i wanted to try out newly received Hello Kitty stencil iii. i also wanted to eat chocolate cake. There, mostly for myself right? :D

I made an 8" cake for this actually. Due to my own carelessness, i didn't manage to get my big stencil print on the cake and that wasn't all. I messed it up too! However, i was pretty determined to get the cake posted on my blog, hence out born these little cakes, cut using my medium size cookie cutter, mainly to make use of my small stencils on the clean cake part which i can blog about. Ha!

So how did the cake taste?

Fudgy enough to satisfy all of our chocolate cake cravings!

It was really good.. except for the organic wholemeal flour i used. Didn't like the smell. Luckily, the smell was barely there the next day. Next time round, i'll make sure i use the normal wholemeal flour definitely!

And also, you know what?

It's rather unbelievable actually but this cake is oil/butter free!

Amazing yeah?

So it's fatless and uses wholemeal flour instead of plain flour. Those who are on diet would love this! Even those who aren't, they will also love it actually. It's really that good.

And seriously, no need for chocolate glaze / ganache on top. It's chocolate-ed enough!

Wanna buy?

Email me!

Selling at $18 - only no frills version available. Self collection.

p.s: using Val Rhona 55% cacao

Chocolate truffle cake

This is the b.e.s.t chocolate cake i've ever eaten.

Made from Valrhona 55%.

I know it doesn't look like it but it is! Trust me. I'm a fussy pot when it comes to cakes and especially more when it's my own baking. If the cake isn't good, i rather not eat it. I mean, why waste my stomach space? :P

This was the cake which i mentioned here, a few posts before this. This was also the cake which i'd invited Davis and her girls over for but unfortunately, she couldn't make it due to weak stomach that day. Davis dear, next time okay? ;)

I must say, the chocolate is as creamy as this. Really comparable! A good dark chocolate is a MUST use when it comes baking this. No buts :P

I was pretty disappointed at how the pictures above turned out. Really couldn't capture the real 'beauty' of the cake.

The last picture here (above) was taken at the very last minute when i was pigging out, hoping it'll do some justice to the chocolate cake. Grin. It was made from the extra chocolate and the cut out chocolate sponge cake after the above 8" cake tin was filled up to the rim.

Chocolate truffles

This chocolate is simply to die for!!

I hardly do review for chocolates but this is an exception because they are really so, so good.

What's more, they are easy on your pocket too. Sometimes, good chocolates don't just have to be Goddiva etc. Cheaper ones do taste pretty good too, like this one *wink*

According to my sil (she's the one who bought this for us from the US), the dark chocolate version is only available there in US but in Sg, we can get the milk chocolates -- the red ones-- for this version pretty easily.

How different is Lindt Lindor Truffles?

I don't know about you but this is the first time i've ever eaten a chocolate that is this creamy, not too sweet and it has got creamy liquid chocolate in the center! Very mountain-tortoise-me i know! Grin.

When you put the whole chocolate in your mouth, it simply burst and you'll feel the creamy liquid chocolate start flooding your mouth. It's like eating the lava chocolate cake but this is better because it bursts and flows out in your mouth instead of watching it flowing out onto your plate. Almost everyone who eats this sure to have that 'mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm, this is so good' expression on their face as i observed. Lol.

Really, the chocolates are simply divine.

It's so worth getting fat because of them. Haha :P
