Travel : Egypt

Since i can't do entries on food anymore, be it home cooked meals or baking goodies, i'm now channelling my energy to travel entries instead. Another great passion of mine :D

I have been watching tv like a madman these days. From 7pm to 11 or sometimes, even midnight! Mostly watching channel 8 drama series (current fav gotta be CID at 9pm slot) and Starhub's channel 16 : Travel and Living.

Just 2 days ago, i managed to catch a travel documentary on Egypt and it looks so interesting. I have always liked history and no doubt, Egypt is on the top of my list for must travel. But after watching the documentary, i wanna go next year! Grin.

Some tips which i've got from the documentary.

10 places in Egpyt that are a must to go.

10. Mount Sinai : fabulous place to watch sunrise. Breathtaking totally. But one must start hiking (for about 2-3 hours) at 2am to catch the sunrise. It is known as the sacred mountains

9. Karnak : to me, this is a must to go. It's a ruined temple but there is still so much to see. Really awesome. Great for photo takings.

8. Valley of the Kings : the advice is to go as early as you can to avoid the tourists. Mostly tombs there and each person is allowed to see only 3 tombs in a day. But a MUST see tomb there belongs to King Tut who died at the age of 18. His toms is in an almost perfect condition. It's amazing that one can be so close to Son of Egypt who lived thousands of years ago.

7. Abydos : if u are travelling on free and easy, the advice is to take a taxi there. Again, Abydos is a burial place for the first kings of a unified Egypt. It is also believed that King Scorpion was buried here as well or that he was a known figure. Another great place.

6. Amarna : known as the lost city. At first sight, it doesn't look anything significant at all. But if you are looking from a bird's view, you will see the remaining of the lost city. Everything was destroyed after the King (who was the first to believe in only 1 God - The Sun) died.

5. Saqqara : this is where the first step pyramid was built

4. Dashur : this is where the Red Pyramid is. The Red Pyramid was the first successful, true, cased pyramid built in Egpyt, ushering in the era of the Giza style pyramids. One of the pyramids is open for visitors

3. Giza Pyramids : i guess this place does not need much introduction at all. Not all the pyramids are opened to visitors. Each year, 1 pyramid will be closed to let rest for the whole year while others are still opened for tourists.

2. The Great Sphinx : located at the front of the Giza Pyramids. Guess we wont be seeing the Great Sphinx today if not for the French General who 'rescued' it.

Last but not least, the number 1 spot goes to Cairo Museum. Seems like there is so much to see there that you wont be able to finish in 1 day. The tip is to see the artifacts / historical objects be it half or whole of the places that you will be visiting or have visited. It's more significant that way.

Enjoy :D
